Hubbub is an award-winning environmental charity with expertise in behavioural insights and creative communications. Our expertise, combined with the on-the-ground knowledge of numerous community partners, has enabled communities across the UK to run projects with deep and lasting impact that benefits both people and the planet.

Community Calling is Hubbub’s smartphone redistribution initiative. Did you know there are over 7 million people in the UK that don’t have access to the internet, yet there are around 28 million smartphones going unused? Community Calling marries those unused smartphones with digitally excluded communities in a mission to help bridge the digital divide, whilst also tackling e-waste. So far, we have rehomed over 10,000 smartphones that could have otherwise been discarded.

What is the difference between reforestation and carbon offsetting?

Reforestation is planting trees. It is a fantastic climate solution because of their ability to absorb carbon from the atmosphere and store it in their biomass.

The amount of carbon stored by a tree varies, but in one year, a tree can absorb anywhere between 10 - 40kg of carbon dioxide. Mangrove trees in Madagascar absorb around 0.3 tonnes of carbon dioxide over 25-years!

Offsetting carbon is the act of balancing out the carbon footprint of something by funding an equivalent reduction of verified carbon emissions elsewhere.

Buying and retiring a verified carbon credit represents the reduction or avoidance of 1 tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent - which is roughly 2.6 flights from Amsterdam to Rome!

The key to carbon offsetting is ensuring that the carbon credits you’re purchasing are verified by an accredited standard.
